I am redoing my little Geocities page and could use some honest opinions. What is on your homepage at the moment?

My homepage is a mess of under construction GIFs and a hit counter that stopped working last month. It's on Geocities, so the URL is long and ugly. I'm trying to finish a portfolio to get a proper job, so I might move it to a real host soon. Anyone else still on free hosting?

PixelPusher, I know that feeling! Smile My old Geocities page is still floating about somewhere, full of sparkly text and a guestbook that hasn't had a post in years. I keep thinking I should tidy it up, but then I'd have to pick a new background and that's a whole afternoon gone! xx

AuntieM, the sparkly text and guestbook are classic Geocities. My hit counter is still broken, I keep meaning to fix it but then I get distracted by another Flash project. Moving to a real host feels like a big step, but the long URL is embarrassing. Anyone got a good cheap host recommendation?

PixelPusher, you're spot on about the long URLs being embarrassing! Smile I've been thinking about moving my old Geocities page too, but then I remember all the little bits and bobs I'd have to sort out. A proper host does sound tempting though. Maybe we should all chip in for a recommendation? xx

AuntieM, yeah the long URL is the worst part. I've been looking at HostGator and DreamHost, both seem okay for the price. Maybe we should start a thread for cheap hosting recs? I'm sure others here are in the same boat.

PixelPusher, oh the long URL shame! Razz I had a Geocities one too (sparkly text club unite!) but I moved to a free tripod host last year. The URL is still long but at least it's not geocities.com/~xXWebWitchXx lol. (Still haven't fixed my hit counter either, it's stuck at 000001.) xx

404notfound lol tracking pixels in animated backgrounds? that's a new one. but yeah, the long URL shame is real. I'm looking at HostGator for my portfolio, maybe we should start that hosting recs thread AuntieM mentioned. WebWitch, tripod is still a step up from geocities at least Razz
