webwitch i'm not trying to spook you i'm just saying the timing is suspicious. auntiem still no answer about the dvd? and has anyone checked their task manager for weird processes running? i saw something called 'svchost.exe' using a ton of memory earlier.

SiliconSam is correct. svchost.exe is a legitimate Windows service host process, not malware. If you're seeing unusual CPU usage from it, check which services are running under it using Process Explorer from Sysinternals. That will give you a clearer picture than just task manager.
