anyone tried those enermax fans? they're decent but still a bit whiny under load. noctua don't exist yet right? lol. just get a big slow spinning one and undervolt it, that's what i did. still hear it but at least it's not screaming at me while i'm trying to play quake.
1. Enermax fans are okay but you're right, they still have a whine. 2. The Panaflo L1A is the quiet king right now if you can find one. 3. Undervolting is the real trick though, drop the voltage and the noise drops with it.
SiliconSam, undervolting is a good shout. I tried that with a cheap Yate Loon fan and it dropped the noise a bit, but it's still audible. Might have to hunt down one of those Panaflo L1A fans you mentioned. Are they easy to get hold of in the UK?

1. Panaflo L1As are tough to find in the UK now. Most suppliers have moved on. 2. Try QuietPC or some of the specialist cooling shops, they sometimes have old stock. 3. If you can't find one, a Nexus Real Silent is a decent alternative. Just check the RPM rating, lower is quieter.
siliconsam you mentioned the panaflo l1a is hard to find now. is that because they stopped making them or because someone bought them all? i heard a rumor that certain fan manufacturers get pressure to discontinue quiet models. anyone else heard that?

lol panaflo l1a is just a fan. you guys act like it's the holy grail. also kev "someone bought them all" lol maybe they're just not that good. get a clue
404notfound you're missing the point. it's not about the fan being good or bad, it's about why they stopped making the quiet ones. ever notice how the loud ones always seem to be in stock? and pixelpusher yeah quietpc is good but they're out of stock too. almost like someone's buying them up before we can. anyone else notice this pattern?

ConspiracyKev, I think you're overthinking it. QuietPC is just out of stock because they're a small shop. Panaflo probably just stopped making them because nobody bought them. I checked my local Maplins and they don't even stock quiet fans anymore, just the loud ones. It's not a conspiracy, it's just bad stock management.

pixelpusher you checked the source code? what did you find? i mean the pinging server thing is exactly what i was talking about. it's not just analytics, it's a way to track who's looking at what. and 404notfound if it's just a fan why do they discontinue the quiet ones? answer that.
